A plane crash shatters the lives of two families, raising complex issues of love, loyalty, and loss, in Wreckage, the debut novel by Emily Bleeker.
Lillian Linden takes a much-needed vacation to Fiji with her mother-in-law, Margaret, who won the trip in a contest sponsored by Carlton Yogurt. Lillian has two young sons and a busy life in Missouri, so she relishes the break. However, Margaret can often be overbearing. As Lillian is the kind of person who tries to make life easier for everyone around her, she usually lets her husband, Jerry, and Margaret have their way.
During the second week of their trip, a small private jet is taking them to Adiata Beach, a remote beach. Riding along is David Hall, a public relations man from Carlton Yogurt. Their flight attendant is kind and friendly Theresa Sampson. She tells David she just broke up with their pilot, Kent Carter, whom she calls Captain Kent Grabby Hands....

Wreckage by Emily Bleeker Summary Analysis (Audible Audio Edition) Michael Gilboe Instaread Books
The original novel, Wreckage, is a debut novel for author Emily Bleeker. In this detailed Instaread summary/review we soon learn that there are several main characters so after an approximately nine page (Kindle) synopsis it is good to read the ten short bios on those main characters. On a vacation to Fiji, Lillian and her mother-in-law are on a plane taking them to Adiata Beach when it crashes into the ocean. Only three people survive: Lillian, David a PR man and Kent the pilot. Landing on a desert island, Lillian soon finds herself under the scrutiny of Kent who blames both David and her for the death of his ex-girlfriend. Kent doesn't live long after trying to rape Lillian. David and Lillian become lovers and it is not until eighteen months after the crash that they are finally rescued. Much has happened during that time! Lillian tells David that they have to go back to their respective spouses. Will it work? A surprising end!
In 'Character Analysis' we read more about Lillian and David (Lily and Dave), the central characters in the original book. Lillian's other relationships (mother-in-law, friend, husband etc.) are also examined? How does life on the island change David?
Themes is a very informative section. Two men are in love with Lillian and she loves them both. The 'No Picnic' discussion lets the reader know that the details of the crash and reality of life on the island are put forth in great detail, affording you a true sense of the experience. How do Lillian and David deal with the 'shark' of the media once rescued? When does Lillian tell Jerry the whole truth?
Instaread informs us that the original book is sometimes hard to keep track of due to the back and forth between both David and Lillian's life at home and on the island. However we are reassured that the story is easy to read.
If you are looking for a detailed summary of what Wreckage contains then I highly recommend this Instaread book. You will gain tremendous insight into the storyline and characters - way more than what I have written here. It will aid you in discussions be it with just a friend or a larger group. Maybe you have already read the full book and are looking for a synopsis to refresh your memory. Then this is for you!
